Scope and Contents
Oil Painting A painting depicting several children on top of a table covered with cloths and fabric. To the right of the piece, one child sits while gobbling up a honey-like substance by a pile of fabric partially covered with mushrooms and a strange moldy candelabra. Behind him are two children, a girl who is standing with an overjoyed expression, reaching out to embrace another kneeling child, a boy, who stretches out his arms to embrace her. To the left of the piece, a woman lovingly embraces two children who embrace her back, while another boy scoops up a little girl into his arms and swings her around. On the table are objects such as a jug, a knife, a pot of honey, crackers, and a salt shaker. Behind the figures is a strange background with eerie glowing lights and spiderweb-like patterns. To the far left of the piece is a witch rearing back from the figures, her eyes glinting with rage as her mouth gapes open. This painting is from an illustration from the children's book, Heckedy Peg, written by Audrey Wood and illustrated by Don Wood. 27 (3/8)" x 17 (3/8)" Artist: Don Wood Donor: Tom and Pat Van Alyea Hedberg Library 1st Floor, Curriculum Collection
